Topeka, KS

Utiliworks provided technical and business evaluation of AMI, CIS, and SCADA. Utiliworks considered the analysis and recommendations of area assessments and formulated an overall business strategy and an Automation Master Plan to leverage future-planned communications infrastructure (fiber, private radio, cellular) and integration with other software systems. Utiliworks provided a 5 year planning along with detailed cost estimates and sequencing of priority projects.


San Marcos, TX

Utiliworks was hired as the AMI program manager to assess, design, procure and manage a Pilot system and subsequent full-scale deployment of an AMI system for approximately 20,000 electric meters and 10,000 water meters. Areas of project focus included: improvements in the core utility business process, AMI design and vendor selection, and development of a comprehensive AMI project plan to achieve the future state business design.

The City of San Marcos, TX was awarded the Best Smart Infrastructure/Grid Project at CS Week in Nashville, TN. The Expanding Excellence Awards were announced on May 27 by CS Week and Electric Light & Power Magazine.


Danvers, MA

Utiliworks, working in conjunction with Weston and Sampson Engineering, was hired to review and evaluate RFP’s and make recommendations for Smart Metering procurement. Subsequently, the team was hired to manage the complete AMI Implementation including: defining the use of advanced meter data and its relationship to current electric distribution system infrastructure, providing project management services required for full-scale installation, and the design of future state business processes required to support the new AMI system.

SGIG Award: The Town of Danvers, MA was selected to receive approximately $8.5M from the DOE Smart Grid Investment Grants late 2009. The federal stimulus funds will be allocated towards a program to deploy 12,000 smart meters for the full customer base, upgrade cyber security systems and automate outage management. Ruston, LA

Utiliworks conducted an AMI Technology and Business Case Assessment for Smart Metering (Phase 1). Utiliworks was subsequently hired as the AMI program manager to design, procure and manage a Pilot system and prepare the utility for full-scale deployment (Phase 2). Our staff will provide project management, business process modifications, installation oversight and training functions.

SGIG Award: The City of Ruston received an SGIG award of $4.3 million late 2009. Three major phases and overall program management services consists of engineering, design, planning, project management, cyber security, customer education and policy initiatives. Brownsville, TX

Utiliworks was hired for Technical Services to develop a Smart Metering Plan for the city of Brownsville. Utiliworks developed a technology plan for Brownsville Public Utility Board. This included establishing a methodology to ensure technology selection will have positive impact on the goals prior to purchase/implementation and include post commissioning Key Performance Indicator (KPI) to facilitate ongoing measurement against the project goals. Utiliworks has also been designated for: development of a smart metering vision, stakeholder assessment, and the development of a business case.


LIPA, NY

Utiliworks, working in conjunction with Black and Veatch, is developing a Smart Utility Roadmap with focus upon AMI/Smart Metering related business and operational benefits for Long Island Power Authority. The following first phase major tasks are included: develop a project structure and decision model, determine LIPA Grid Objectives, include EPRI “Blue Print” and guiding principles, support Executive Management to achieve Board Approval, define technical, functional, and policy requirements, conduct workshops for functional verticals and polity “shapers”, and develop requirements for a testing lab.


Houston, TX

Utiliworks Consulting provided an AMI assessment with analysis of the critical features and benefits for the City of Houston water system. Areas of interest in the Assessment included: AMI technology review, meter data management software assessment, project capital cost estimate and benefits, AMI impact on operational teams and customers, and the AMI relationship to revenue enhancement and protection. A preliminary design for a pilot project was included in the client deliverable.


Monroe, LA

Working in conjunction with a local engineering firm, Utiliworks was hired to perform the following services related to a full-scale deployment of 23,000 meters: AMI Assessment including business process analysis and capital cost development, design/procurement/project management services, quality control and data verification during deployment, training & business process re-design supported by owner’s staff.
